ONC Staff Profile
Applied Science Specialist, User Engagement
Reza currently works as Applied Science Specialist for Ocean Networks Canada. He enjoys numerical modelling with applications to natural hazards, such as tsunami, storm surge and flooding. Currently he is undertaking tsunami modelling at ONC for the applied science team.
Reza has Civil Engineering background with a B.Sc. in civil engineering and M.Sc. in hydraulic engineering from Iran Universities. After few years of industry experience as civil and water design engineer, he went to the UK to continue his postgraduate studies. He completed his second M.Sc., with distinction, from University of East London, UK, in 2012, and then he received his PhD degree from Newcastle University, UK, in 2017, where he also worked as a research assistant.
His PhD thesis focused on tsunami modelling with modern GPU technology. This project will provide a new practical tool for multi-scale tsunami modelling based on high performance computing. The project will build upon existing schemes to develop a numerical model for tsunami propagation and inundation. His research interest lies in the field of computational hydraulics, numerical modelling, Ocean modelling, river engineering, coastal engineering and high-performance computing.
After Reza finished his work and studies in the UK, he immigrated to Canada, and found that Victoria has active groups for earthquake and tsunami related projects, where he can pursue his career of interest. He joined ONC at November, 2018 and now he is the new member of the applied science team.
In his spare time, Reza enjoys reading, following the World News, music, photography and swimming.
