The organizing committee of the IGCP640, 8th International Symposium on Submarine Mass Movements and Their Consequences wishes to announce that the conference website is now open for abstract submission. The symposium will be held in Victoria, British Columbia from May 7th to 9th, 2018. At this time, we invite abstract submissions that represent an intent to publish a full refereed manuscript in the next volume of Submarine Mass Movements and Their Consequences. This volume will be a Special Publication of the Geological Society of London and, as with previous symposia, will be delivered complete at the time of the conference.
The International Symposium on Submarine Mass Movements and Their Consequences (ISSMMTC) gathers together international researchers concerned with offshore geohazards, including landslides and tsunamis and their impacts on society. It now has a long history promoting and publishing leading edge research in this field, including six (6) volumes that are part of the Advances in Natural and Technological Hazards Research Series. The event is administered under the auspices of UNESCO IGCP project 640 - S4SLIDE (Significance of Modern and Ancient Submarine Slope LandSLIDEs) which aims to strengthen cooperation and promote the publication of scientific literature, promote forums that exchange ideas and facilitate knowledge transfer to developing countries, and improve the links between all sectors with a stake in furthering knowledge of submarine mass movements and their consequences.
