Ocean Networks Canada operates the world-leading NEPTUNE, VENUS, and Arctic ocean observatories for the advancement of science and the benefit of Canada. Ocean Networks Canada collects and provides essential data required to address pressing scientific and policy issues. The innovative infrastructure supplies continuous power and Internet connectivity to a broad suite of subsea instruments from coastal to deep-ocean environments. Ocean Networks Canada is currently expanding its infrastructure to further deliver data for scientific research as well as new Smart Ocean Systems™ products and services for a broader stakeholder group that includes industry, coastal communities, authorities, and governments. One of Canada’s CFI-funded Major Science Initiatives, Ocean Networks Canada is a national facility hosted and owned by the University of Victoria and managed and operated by the Ocean Networks Canada Society, a fit-for-purpose not-for-profit society established in 2007. Ocean Networks Canada is governed by an independent Board of Directors that meets four times per year. The vision of Ocean Networks Canada is to enhance life on Earth by providing knowledge and leadership that deliver ocean solutions for science, industry, and society. The Board is comprised of individuals from industry, academia, government and the private sector. Directors bring a variety of skills and experience to the Board ensuring that Ocean Networks Canada’s activities are directed toward achieving this important vision. Directors are elected for three-year terms, and all Directors serve on at least one standing committee of the Board.
Candidates for Board positions must be available to attend quarterly Board meetings held in Victoria British Columbia, or at alternate locations in the case of videoconference meetings. Candidates should be willing to represent Ocean Networks Canada in the community and to use their influence to help achieve Ocean Networks Canada’s vision. Ocean Networks Canada is currently seeking Directors with skills in one or more of the following areas:
• not-for-profit administration (legal, human resources, finance); and
• marine or ocean industry, including marine situational awareness.

The Governance and Human Resources Committee of the Board of Directors will review and select the candidates from among the applications received. These candidates will then be brought forward to the Board for approval before being submitted to the Members for
election at the Annual General Meeting in September 2017.
