Supporting the diverse research activities that use ocean observatory data is an ongoing and evolving effort. ONC's research community contributes to operational planning and strategic development through the Ocean Observatory Council and the Theme Leaders. The Observatory Council represents active science users and works closely with ONC leadership to advise on operational priorities and on scientific opportunities arising from recent ocean observations.
The recently established Theme Leaders have three-year appointments to develop new research initiatives within ONC's four research themes described in the ONC Strategic Plan. Their role will be to engage graduate students in multi-disciplinary and/or inter-institutional collaborations and collaborate with ONC science staff to host workshops that launch new initiatives.
“Please join me in welcoming our 2016 - 18 Theme Leaders, all of whom bring their expertise, insight and tremendous energy and enthusiasm to help lead our growing research community. They are certain to attract new talent at the grad student level, and to help inspire and train the next generation of ocean scientists.” Dr. Kim Juniper, Chief Scientist
