Acoustic receivers detect and decode transmissions from acoustic tags. Receivers are categorized as passive or active which define how the receivers are used.
Acoustic receiver instruments include fish tracking devices. In general, receivers listen for transmitters which may be acoustic coded tags placed on marine mammals and fish that come into range of the receiver. Fish receivers and acoustic tags come in a variety of frequencies and sizes that can be used for a variety of applications and types of marine life including tiny salmon smolts to great white sharks.
