Field Services Manager, Observatory Operations
The Field Team is part of the Marine Operations group at ONC, and are the staff generally responsible for new installations, and maintenance of existing systems in the field. This group is involved in a wide variety of operations, from ship based work Off-shore on the deep water Observatory, to servicing instruments on BC Ferries, to installing land based seismic sensors and maintaining small Ocean Observatories up the BC Coast and into the Arctic.
Paul has been with ONC from the early days, starting in 2004 at VENUS, just as the In-shore Observatory was evolving from paper into infrastructure on the seafloor in Pat Bay. He has taken on many different roles since then, from Instrument Manager and Project Engineer at VENUS, to the VENUS LEF (Phase 2) Project Manager in 2009, to the present day role of Field Services Manager where he coordinates and manages the Ocean Networks Canada Field Services Team.
Paul brings a varied background in Engineering and Oceanography to the organization. He obtained his B.A.Sc. Mechanical Engineering from the University of Waterloo (1995), a M.Sc. Physical Oceanography (2003) from the University of Victoria, and more recently his PMP designation (2015).
