Observatory Support Engineer, Innovation Centre
Ryan Flagg graduated from the Mechanical Engineering program at the University of Victoria in 2013 and from the Camosun College Mechanical Engineering Technology program in 2005. Ryan completed 9 months of engineering co-op work while attending Camosun, almost 16 months while attending the University of Victoria, and over two years of engineering-related industry work while taking time away from post secondary education. Before joining Ocean Networks Canada to complete the design and installation of the Brentwood College Community Observatory and the Cambridge Bay Community Observatory, he worked on several oceanographic cruises aboard Canadian Coast Guard Ships near Vancouver Island and in the Canadian Arctic.
Ryan served as the president of the University of Victoria Aerospace Engineering Research Organization (AERO) student team for two years and, as a result, assisted with Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV) PhD research. He has served, both part time and full time, as a member of the Canadian Forces Navy Reserves for over ten years and was awarded the Queen Elizabeth II Diamond Jubilee Medal in late 2012. In his spare time , Ryan enjoys training for triathlons, playing the drums, and SCUBA diving.
