Tom Dakin

Sensor Technology Development Officer, Innovation Centre

Tom brings over three decades of experience in pioneering research and development of oceanographic sensors to the ONC Innovation Centre team in his position as Sensor Technology Development Officer. He has developed a wide range of sensor technologies including sound speed sensors, CTDs, flow sensors, hydrocarbon detectors, a geothermal heat probe, an underwater mass spectrometer, and towed array sensors for commercial, scientific and military applications. Tom’s background includes both the Canadian Navy and Air Force, and the R&D manager for AML Oceanographic prior to Joining ONC. Tom is also developing a new technology to support the latest UNESCO equation of state for seawater, for a PhD in Ocean Acoustics at UVic.
