ONC Staff Profile

Tania Lado Insua

Ocean Analytics Program Manager , Innovation Centre

Tania is originally from Galicia, Spain, where she obtained a bachelors degree in Marine Sciences from University of Vigo. As part of her degree she investigated environmental impacts of oil-spills on mussel communities using population genetics techniques. Tania expanded her research in invertebrate population genetics by obtaining a Diploma of Advanced Studies in Marine Biology and Aquaculture from the University of Vigo, in collaboration with the University of Puerto Rico, Mayagüez.

After several years working in the biological sciences she became interested in engineering and modeling. She obtained MS and PhD degrees in Ocean Engineering from the University of Rhode Island with research focusing on applying models of sediment physical properties to past and present climate change.

Tania has been an active participant of several Integrated Ocean Drilling Program expeditions (325, 336, 341S and 344S), sailing as a physical properties specialist or ocean engineer. Her most recent research includes international collaborations on diverse research topics such as environmental impact evaluation for renewable energies, paleoceanography, physical properties of the sediment, geohazards monitoring, seafloor observatories and paleoclimate.
