Acoustic receiver instruments include VEMCO fish tracking devices. VEMCO acoustic monitoring receivers are small can-shaped instruments that are installed on platforms on the seafloor, or attached to moorings in the water column. The instruments listen for transmitters, which are acoustic coded tags placed on marine mammals and fish that come into range of the receiver. VEMCO receivers and acoustic tags come in a variety of frequencies and sizes that can be used for a variety of applications and types of marine life including tiny salmon smolts to great white sharks.
