Notice for Mariners
Practical information about ONC’s infrastructure including downloadable maps & emergency contact information.

We currently have high-voltage fibre-optic cables, instruments, and infrastructure in place on the seafloor and in the water column. There is a potential impact on fishing activities.

View information on ONC’s physical infrastructure including shore stations, submarine cables, nodes, and instrument systems.

Maps of ONC’s infrastructure have been created for easy access and reference. Orange boxes on each map below indicate documents that are available for download. These PDF documents contain a brief description of ONC’s various infrastructure, the date of latest deployments, a table of coordinates, descriptions for each platform, applicable new cable routes, and instructions on how to obtain more information.

We ask that mariners pay close attention to any Navigation Warnings (NAVWARNS) present on their routes, as well as the nautical charts including all Electronic Navigational Charts and Paper Charts of all scales. We appreciate your cooperation in avoiding these areas.

Waypoint Files

Waypoint files of ONC infrastructure are provided for users in an open source .GPX format for upload to Electronic Navigational Software (ECS) packages.

Two file types are created for point infrastructure to accommodate most ECS packages. One file is created for cables as routes are handled the same in all systems. Instrument files contain a site identifier, site name, comments (a brief description of the infrastructure), latitude (decimal degrees), longitude (decimal degrees), depth (metres), and the location of the instrument. Cable Route files show cables at all vertices, the Waypoint name (containing the extension identifier Waypoint number), latitude (decimal degrees), and longitude (decimal degrees). Shapefiles available on request.
