To maintain and service the world’s most advanced cabled ocean observatories, we routinely schedule expeditions on major oceanographic vessels (CCGS John P. Tully, R/V Thomas G. Thompson). During these expeditions our engineering and technical staff use remotely operated vehicles (ROVs) to recover, deploy, and connect instrument systems to the observatories. In addition, scientific samples are often collected for sensor calibration and site characterization. Depending on the ship schedules, we make every effort to service each observatory site at least once per year, during 3 to 4 separate expeditions between March and October.
Although space can be limited, if you are interested in participating on an Ocean Networks Canada expedition, either to install an experiment, collect a sample, participate in our education outreach program, or just assist with maintaining a state-of-the-art observatory, please contact us.
