The #OceanDecade Challenge—a partnership project between ONC, Girl Guides of Canada and Fisheries and Oceans Canada— encourages youth to celebrate and participate in the United Nations (UN) Decade of Ocean Science for Sustainable Development (2021-2030).
By focusing on 7 societal outcomes, the UN hopes that people all around the world will use “the science we need for the ocean we want”: a clean, healthy, productive, predicted, safe, accessible and inspiring ocean!
Kids across Canada, coastal and inland, can get involved!
Learn how data, science and our choices contribute to the health of our ocean, and how we all can play an active role in a sustainable ocean future. Dive into games, experiments and hands-on activities under each of the UN’s seven ocean outcomes and then share what you learned on our interactive website. We can send you a #OceanDecade Challenge crest too!
The activities use materials usually found in homes or classrooms, and are designed for kids from seven to eight (called Ocean Explorers) and nine to 12 (Ocean Advocates) years of age.
For full challenge details, check out this helpful guide or explore the individual activities here.
