K-12 Education Coordinator, Corporate Services
Dr. Jennifer Putland is a K-12 Education Coordinator within the Learning and Community Engagement team. In this role she is responsible for the development of educational resources, partnerships, and programs, as well as engagement with educators, students and the public.
Prior to joining Ocean Networks Canada, Jennifer worked with a variety of oceanographic organizations (e.g. at Florida State University, Harbor Branch Oceanographic Institution, DFO - Institute of Ocean Sciences) studying plankton ecology in the Pacific, Atlantic, Gulf of Mexico, Arctic, and Antarctic. She also has a background in teaching students in high school and university, and holds a Professional Certificate of Qualification to teach in British Columbia’s educational system.
Her educational background includes a BSc in Ecology from the University of British Columbia, Diploma (Secondary Teacher Education) from the University of Victoria, MSc in Marine Biology from Memorial University of Newfoundland, and PhD in Biological Oceanography from Florida State University.
When Jennifer is not working at Ocean Networks Canada, she enjoys outdoor pursuits (biking, hiking, water sports, tennis, riding, and looking for new outdoor pursuits) and spending time with her family (including the furry and feathered).
