Cable Info Hotline Now Available
Ocean Networks Canada (ONC) operates seafloor telecommunication cables and scientific equipment in Alberni Inlet and Barkley Sound. These allow ONC to collect freely available oceanographic data in real time from these locations and offshore from Vancouver Island. Additionally, Google has installed two seafloor telecommunication cables, the Topaz and Topaz Stub, which pass through Alberni Inlet into Barkley Sound.
A hotline and information email are now available for addressing questions and concerns about these cables and instruments:
Phone: (236) 464-0013
Email: cableinfo@oceannetworks.ca
ONC is not affiliated with the Connected Coast partnership, nor their subsea fibre-optic cable infrastructure. ONC is providing georeferenced chartplotter files of the known subsea infrastructure on the coast for the safety, security and convenience of all mariners. For more information on the Connected Coast project including maps of their infrastructure, please visit their website at www.connectedcoast.ca
