This summer, university students enrolled in the Coastal Biodiversity and Conservation course at the Bamfield Marine Sciences Centre used deep sea video recorded by ROPOS to learn about benthic ecosystems. Students used the video to study how environmental variables can influence species richness and abundance. The instructor for the course was Caroline Fox, who completed her PhD at the University of Victoria. The Bamfield Marine Sciences Centre is located in Barkley Sound, on the west coast of Vancouver Island, not far from Folger Passage, where NEPTUNE observatory cameras are recording video, and instruments are collecting ocean data.
