Associate Director, Canadian Integrated Ocean Observing System (CIOOS), Pacific, User Services
Denis currently works as Executive Director, Canadian Integrated Ocean Observing System (CIOOS), Pacific, located at Ocean Networks Canada. He enjoys contributing to the Canadian effort in making ocean data around the country findable, accessible, interoperable and re-usable.
Previously, Denis worked at DFO’s Institute of Oceans Sciences (IOS) in Sidney, BC as Director of the Canadian Hydrographic Service, Pacific Region. In that position, Denis directed the delivery of the CHS’s products and services for safe navigation in Canadian waters. Denis has over 30 years of experience in the management and practice of ocean science in Canada’s three oceans. He hold a PhD in oceanography (UBC) for which he investigated the oceanographic control of juvenile chum salmon productivity in eel grass feeding areas off the Fraser River.
When Denis is not working for CIOOS Pacific, he enjoys bucking and splitting firewood, and volunteering with the Royal Canadian Marine Search & Rescue, Unit 36 in Sidney.
