Join Ocean Networks Canada for Science Odyssey Week, May 11–20, 2018
School group event on Tuesday, May 15, 2018, 9:30am–2:30pm (Learning Centre, Royal BC Museum)
Have you ever wondered how scientists study biodiversity? Do you want to learn about diversity in Canada's Arctic Ocean? Join Ocean Networks Canada for Science Odyssey Week and participate in hands-on activities as a family or with your school.
Ocean Networks Canada is hosting interactive sessions on Arctic Science and Indigenous Knowledge in collaboration with the Royal BC Museum. These sessions are happening on Sunday, May 13, 11am–2pm for families and on Tuesday, May 15, 9:30am–2:30pm for school groups. The sessions will consist of an introductory presentation at the museum followed by a series of three interactive stations (designed for Middle School grades) to provide hands-on opportunities to learn about the Canadian Arctic, Indigenous Knowledge, and ocean science and technology. Each station features a different activity linked to a new classroom lesson currently being developed for Ocean Networks Canada’s Ocean Sense program (funded by PromoScience). These new lessons are united under the theme of Arctic Ocean biodiversity and connect ocean science with Indigenous place-based knowledge. The sessions will be offered at no cost to participants.
