During this 2-week expedition aboard the Canadian Coast Guard Vessel John P. The Canadian Coast Guard Ship John P. Tully team positions ROV Odysseus before a dive in the Strait of Georgia.

Highlights of Leg 1 include:

  • Deploying a mooring at Saanich Inlet sill to further understand this unique natural low oxygen zone.
  • Instrumentation at Endeavour hydrothermal vents will see significant expansion, including new sensors and cameras to improve our understanding of the dynamic ecosystem that is Canada’s first marine protected area.
  • Improvements will be made to the tsunami detection array at Cascadia Basin.
  • New deep sea moorings will be deployed to measure ocean currents that flow along the Juan de Fuca volcanic ridge.
