Learn about Indigenous-led projects to restore traditional cultivation and harvesting practices. Understand the barriers this work faces and how people are finding solutions.

Skye Augustine is from the Stz’uminus Nation and is a Hul’q’umi’num’ scholar, marine scientist, and mentor whose leadership supports people to reconnect with ancestral lands, waters and ways of knowing. She is a doctoral candidate with the Coastal Marine Ecology & Conservation Lab at Simon Fraser University.

Philip Brass is a member of the Peepeekisis Cree Nation. In Treaty 4 Territory, Philip is an emerging voice and thinker in the ever more urgent issues of Indigenous Peoples rights and environmental protection. He is an artist and hunter who dedicates most of his time to learning, sharing and teaching traditional land based skills, knowledge and language with children and youth, both on reserve and throughout the Prairie Valley School Division.

Ashley Manitowabi was born and raised in Wiikemkoong Unceded Territory of the Three Fires Confederacy (Ojibway, Odawa, Potowanami) on Manitoulin Island, Ontario He has five beautiful children and a wife and lives at Homesteading lifestyle in Wiikwemkoong. Growing interests on the Land, planting, building, harvesting, and hunting brought him into land-based Arts Lead at Debajehmujig Storytellers.
