Suspended Sediment Profiler
Suspended Sediment Profilers (SSPs) consist of multiple acoustic transducers tuned to different frequencies, and rely on a principle, that the same sediment particle will scatter differently with acoustic waves of different frequencies. SSPs are active devices, which means they transmit and receive reflected acoustic signals (i.e. echoes). SSPs are high frequency acoustic profilers, used in sediment transport studies, including measurement of suspended sediment profiles, precision altimetry, dredge plumes and turbulence.
