A profiling sonar transmits a pulse at a certain frequency along a beam. The sonar processor looks at the return signal for each pulse and decides where along that pulse return time lays the strongest return, giving a single point in space.
The Imagenex 881A Profiling Sonar is a programmable, multi-frequency, digital scanning sonar that can be operated using default settings or its configuration customized for seafloor or water column monitoring.
