The Alliance for Coastal Technologies (ACT) is currently accepting preliminary applications from developers, manufacturers, and distributors of commercially available, in situ pH sensors interested in participating in independent performance testing.
ACT will review responses from interested parties and invite those with technologies that meet established criteria to submit a full proposal package. This ACT Technology Evaluation will focus instruments that are designed for moored measurements of pH in freshwater, brackish and/or seawater, priority performance parameters identified by various pH sensor users, will be conducted in diverse coastal settings, and will be free of charge for qualifying applicants. All results will be made available to the public in summary reports.
ACT is a NOAA-funded partnership of research institutions, state and regional resource managers, and private sector companies that are interested in developing, improving, and applying sensor technologies for studying and monitoring coastal environments. ACT was established on the premise that instrument validation of existing and emerging technologies is essential to support both coastal science and resource management, and the Integrated Ocean Observing Systems (IOOS). The specific functions of ACT are to serve as:
- An unbiased, third-party testbed for evaluating existing, new, and developing coastal sensors and sensor platforms
- A comprehensive data and information clearinghouse on coastal technologies
- A forum for capacity building through workshops and seminars on specific technology topics.
Please download the PDF application forms. The deadline for initial applications is 5 PM ET, January 6, 2012.
