Rhea Sanders (Oregon State University) and Rick Noel (Rockland Scientific) discuss alignment of instruments on a new package destined for Saanich Inlet. Rhea works with Dr. Clare Reimers to measure turbulent fluxes of oxygen over sediments. VENUS designed the ‘birdcage’ frame to host the instrument package that Rockland assembled for Oregon State University. Following the August deployment, the investigators are adjusting the instrument configurations to optimize the measurements. The goal is to understand better how the chemical and biological processes in sediments consume oxygen from overlying waters.
