The Spring 2025 #ONCabyss expedition concluded earlier than expected due to deteriorating offshore weather conditions.
With winds reaching 56 km/h and swells up to 3 metres, the conditions around the NEPTUNE observatory became too dangerous to safely launch the ROV and continue our operations.
Ocean Networks Canada kicked off the 2025 #ONCabyss season with a 10-day expedition aboard Canpac Marine Services’ vessel Valour on March 18.
During this expedition, ONC and Canpac Marine Services serviced the Victoria Experimental Network Under the Sea (VENUS) observatory in the Salish Sea and the North East Pacific Time-series Undersea Networked Experiments (NEPTUNE) observatory, off the west coast of Vancouver Island.
