The ONC Community Fishers mobile app supports the collection of important oceanographic data by vessel operators, mariners, and fishers. By using a Conductivity, Temperature, Depth (CTD) instrument connected to a mobile device, this custom-designed app simplifies the collection and transfer of water column data to Oceans 3.0 data management portal.
Data gathered by community fishers can be accessed and utilized by citizens and researchers alike, providing insight into ocean conditions and marine habitat. This works to establish baseline data for our changing ocean. Read more about this program here.
In September 2020, we launched a new geospatial mapping tool that further enhances the Community Fishers experience. This interactive visual interface displays high-resolution water column profiles, enabling clear visual representations of complex underwater environments. The geospatial map helps users identify problems, track changes, set priorities, perform forecasting, and respond to events.
